Team UCU bags 9 gold medals in East Africa University Games

BY FRED HIDULA Uganda Christian University (UCU) finished fourth overall bagging 9 gold, 8 silver and 14 bronze totaling to  31 medals in the just concluded East Africa University  Games held at Jomo Kenyatta  University of Agriculture and Technology from 16-21, December 2016. UCU won gold in team events which included basketball  (men and women), netball,  athletics (200m)  (women), long jump (men and women), badminton, shotput (women), taekwondo(Men). BY FRED HIDULA After convincingly winning their two opening away-fixtures by beating Buikwe 2-0 and Western United 5-0, UCU Lady Canons were upset by defending champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School, who defeated them 1-2, on November 26 at the new pitch. Two first-half goals from Juliet Nalukenge and Sharon Apon sealed the visitor’s win, as they dominated ball possession, with the home side only managing one shot on target and fruitless attacks. Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has selected a provisional team consisting of 24 players, ahead of the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon. BY FRED HIDULA Over 12 Uganda Christian University (UCU) teams are set to compete at this year’s East Africa University Games from December 17-21 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Nairobi. The probable list of teams meant to represent the university include; volleyball (men and women), athletics, badminton, chess, taekwondo, netball, tennis, rugby, wood ball, basketball (men and women).
