DOSA commends international students

The Director of Students’ Affairs, Mrs Olive Birabi, has urged the international students at Uganda Christian University to work towards unity, writes Alex Tsongo Mathe.

This was during the annual International Students’ Week held October 1-7 to discuss issues about their success while here at university.

The ideas shared concerned culture, language, food and nationality.

The students were also involved in community work in which they helped the catering staff in serving food in the dining hall. Furthermore, they ushered people in during community worship, and washed cars for money, raising Shs400,000 for the Chain Foundation Orphanage in Mukono.

Edgar Kabahizi, the in-charge international students at UCU, said he had detected discrimination among students from different countries. Consequently, he said, he had come up with a strategy to create harmony.

“It is now five years since we started holding such activities across nationalities, and it has all been a success,” he said.

Clement John Younes, their president, thanked UCU for the support and hospitality offered to them during their stay at the university.

The week’s activities culminated in a dinner at Nanjing Chinese Restaurant in Mukono and a thanksgiving service in Nkoyoyo Hall last Sunday
