Daniel Manzi the guild Member of Parliament for Non-residents did not enjoy the 2016 Christmas.
As he celebrated the day, he dived into a swimming pool in Mbarara and accidentally hurt his spine.
Daniel is now soliciting for Shs3.6m to undergo an operation at Mulago Hospital.
The Guild President, Ms Prisca Amongin, told The Standard that Manzi had gone swimming at Big Fun Entertainment in Mbarara town with his friends when the accident happened.
“Daniel said that when he dived into the deep end of the pool, he knocked his head and the back on a hard object and injured his spinal cord,” Amongin said.
Daniel said he never felt pain immediately after the incident, until two days later.
This is when he was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where his spine was scanned, only to find that a number of small bones had been shattered.
Amongin said on December 27, Daniel was referred to Mulago Hospital. From Mulago he was sent to Nakasero Hospital for further scanning, she said.
Daniel’s neck is now supported with weights to stabilize his movements and avoid further damage as he awaits results from India to advise on whether he should undergo an operation.
Amongin said the orthopaedic surgeon working on Daniel had explained that it was a miracle for someone with a spinal injury as serious as his to keep moving for two days without feeling pain.
She added that the Guild Government has been collecting money to help their own.
