Shepherds triumph

The UCU rugby team, the Shepherds, thrashed the Rhinos 31–0 on January 25 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, Kampala.
Despite the delayed release of the year’s fixtures, the Sherpherds managed to display an outstanding performance against their opponents.
The team dominated the game with great performance from Paul Karungi, Matthias Ocaria, Dennis Sekiwere and Alex Aturinda. UCU’s Brian Makaragwa was the most outstanding player of the day.
“The results came as a shock following the team’s lack of training time as a result of the new pitch undergoing rehabilitation,” Timothy Luyirika, the team captain, said.
“The grounds rehabilitation, though good in the long run, have been a major setback in the short term. We have, therefore, decided to improvise with the old pitch for training time even though its terrain is slanted. The team also uses St Francis High School’s ground for training.”
He added, “The team’s strength lies in Denis Etuket the coach who has managed to invest a lot of effort in spiraling the team; and we also have the advantage of experienced players.”
The team aspires to get into the Uganda Rugby Premiere League, and get players involved in the national Sevens League. This is hoped to boost the players exposure.
