A Uganda Christian University second-year student of Business Information Technology has been arrested on allegation of raping a first-year student.

Ignatius Nimusiima, 22 allegedly took the first-year girl to his hostel under the guise of escorting her to her hostel through the dark after the Freshers Ball on the night of Friday September 28.

In her statement recorded at the UCU Police Station, the girl whose identity we are not disclosing for protection purposes, said she was frightened to walk alone back to her hostel which is an affiliate to the university halls of residence.

“I called Nimusiima to escort me to my hostel. He told me that he was also getting out of campus through the Tech-Park Gate and [he] requested me to get him there,” the statement reads in part.

She said when she reached, Nimusiima told her that the route she wanted to take was very dangerous and offered to take her through a safer route, after which he led her to his hostel and asked her to see where he stays.

I entered and immediately [he] locked the door with the padlock. He put on the music to its loudest volume and undressed himself. I pleaded with him to let me go but he was very rude. He started undressing me. I tried to resist and he started beating [me up].”

In his statement, however, Nimusiima denied having intercourse with the girl.

“The truth of the matter is, we romanced each other but we did not have sex,” Nimusiima said in his recorded statement.

By press time, Nimusiima was still at Mukono Central Police Station, awaiting production in court.
