Despite finishing fourth overall with a total of 31 medals, team UCU failed to surpass their own impressive record, three years ago when they bagged 13 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze totaling to 42 medals and finished third overall.
However, the team defended their titles in basketball (men and women) and netball (women), keeping their bragging rights as regional giants intact.
Ndejje University underlined their prowess winning the competition for the third successive campaign and equaling Makerere University’s (MUK) record as five time champions by amassing a total of 94 medals after gathering a whooping 36 gold, 28 silver and 30 bronze medals, in a competition that had 19 disciplines and attracted 33 Universities from Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
Ugandan Universities dominated the top five medal table standings with Kyambogo finishing second ahead of hosts Kenyatta University the only non Ugandan side to finish in top 5 while UCU came fourth and Kampala University followed in fifth place.
